![]() We believe in animals that are able to free whelp their litters (the really tiny ones do not have the space in their pelvis to be able to pass puppies through naturally and often require painful c-sections), and we strive for healthy dogs that match the breed standard. Many of those dogs are also poorly bred with heavy influxes of inbreeding, or using "runts" in order to get a desired size while giving up quality in other characteristics or health. Although the extremely small poms are fashionable and cute we do not breed specifically for this as many of these come with health complications, or are at higher risk for these complications. The pomeranian breed standard does not have different size divisions and a reputable breeder will not sell a dog as a "micro or teacup pom". We also very much encourage the use of pomeranians as service animals, and we strive to produce some dogs who have the dispositions and qualities for that job.Ī note on size: There is a continuing trend in the toy dogs for "teacup, micro, pocket or purse" dogs. This helps us to stay competitive in achieving our goal in breeding quality dogs that match the conformational standard of excellence in the pomeranian breed and maintain goals of health, athleticism and intelligence. We show our dogs and encourage the showing of our puppies in both conformation and performance classes. ![]() We find it is important to both do OFA and DNA in order to help screen for potential health issues. We also support the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) which is the main body for physical testing. ![]() Although DNA testing is still in it's relatively early stages, we support the continued research and this will help add to the database so that research can be developed to uncover new tests. We do Embark DNA testing on all our breeding dogs so as to help avoid possible genetic problems. Pedigrees are researched before breeding. While show-quality partis are a challenge due to a certain bias towards the traditional colours, we are still enjoying the journey and continue to learn and improve. Colour is not the only goal, of course- breeding healthy, friendly dogs has always been our primary focus. Our goal is to comtinue to produce parti-coloured poms that can compete on an equal footing in the show ring with the more traditional colours, while maintaining strong health and good, loveable temperaments. This is temperament, conformation, health, loyalty and all the things that make a great family pet. We believe in furthering the breed and promoting the characteristics that first made us fall in love with poms. All of our puppies are raised underfoot and all of our breeders and pets live as companions, not in kennels. We breed only a small number of select dogs. We are located in the small town of Three Hills in central Alberta, Canada.
